Oxford-based Torch Theatre Productions is performing a collection of thought-provoking monologues celebrating a century of evolving social attitudes in British gay history. This will be an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
Curated by award-winning actor Mark Gatiss, Queers was commissioned in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, which decriminalised homosexual acts between two men in private over the age of 21. Torch Theatre Productions performed this first over three days last June at the Burton Taylor Studio in Oxford, to rave reviews and packed audiences
Each monologue is 20 minutes long. They take us from a soldier in the First War recollecting a love that dare not speak its name, to a 1950’s housewife who comes to the realisation that her marriage isn’t all she thought it was, to a gay actor in the 1980’s struggling with being typecast.
The performance will start at 8.00pm with doors opening at 7.30pm for drinks and some canapés. Tickets are £15. To book, please email Jessica Mannix using the link below.
